:First, I don't get the sudden change of heart. It's my understanding that Heather asked you for help on numerous occasions and that you were essentially unresponsive.

When Heather had asked me at first about adding the Dissimilars, this show was already a five-band bill, and I didn't wanna make the Pirate House take a risk on a six-band bill.

By the time the Bananas cancelled, the Plainfield show had already taken shape. Furthermore, KIT and Sex With Girls had specifically asked about playing with the Bananas, so my natural instincts when finding a replacement for the Bananas was to ask the Four Eyes. The similarities between Bananas and KIT/SWG are also evident in the Four Eyes.

When this became a Davismusicscene.org show, I had to add yet another band because DMS has a rule that every DMS event must have a band from Davis on the bill. That's how Narwhal came along.

This is merely a situation of bad timing and misunderstanding. I love you and Klinger both! It hurt when neither of you said hi yesterday.

Please, understand why I'm not at liberty to add a sixth band to this show that has to be done by 10-10:30 (all equipment's gotta be moved out by 11). Once this became a DMS show, I gave up being "in charge" of it. That is the truth.

I didn't anonymously post the weather forecast, and I don't know who did that. But inasmuch as the Plainfield will be wet, cold, and windy tomorrow night, I do really think that my idea about the Dissimilars getting on-deck to play the Coffeehouse might work out.

I may be setting myself up for total banishment from anything DMS-involved by suggesting this, but I'm okay with that risk because if it pays off, a lot of people will see the Dissimilars for the first time, and I expect most of them will be awesomed over and have a ton more fun.

:Second, although you say you're "not in charge of the show," you had an open slot when the Bananas cancelled and you promptly offered it to the Four Eyes, knowing full well the Dissimilars needed a show.

Dissimilars were booked at Plainfield by that time. It was just bad timing. Had the Bananas cancelled sooner, I would've called Klinger right away to set up Dissimilars.

:Finally, I'm sure you're genuinely concerned about the Dissimilars playing on Friday night, but I must admit that I'm skeptical of your altruism, especially since you've got three out of town bands on the bill and you could probably use the draw for the Plainfield show. Splitting up nothing three ways is a bitch.

It is sucky to have two great shows in the same town on the same night when you really just wanna see 'em both. But, please read everything I've written about that night on every message board and list-serve on which I post about shows. I've been encouraging everyone to NOT stay home that night...go see one of these shows.

It sucks to have a dilemma, but it's not as sucky as having nothing to do on a Friday night. That is why people still prefer the Bay Area to a place like Fresno.

:Back to you not being in charge of the show. After you offered the vacant slot to the Four Eyes, and before they agreed to do the show, I spoke to the band. They summed it up quite well: "Try to get the Dissimilars on the UCD show instead of us. Then there won't be two shows that night in the same town." That is a direct quote.

I had no idea that they said that. They never told me that. But regardless, I'm sure I had already heard of the Plainfield show taking shape before the Bananas cancellation. I swear I wouldn't have even hatched the idea of asking the Four Eyes had I known about the Dissimilars availability.
