Re: Rain Likely...Bring Dissimilars to UCD!?!?

:Klinger, please bring the Dissimilars to the UCD show. We can't make any promises about fitting them in, but I'd try my damnedest to make things happen that way.

:This could work! The only thing is, I'm not in charge of this show, so all I can do is offer this as advice to whoever's running the show. Seriously, this would be a great thing to do to keep the show fun and never boring, plus adding the surprise of the Dissimilars who are so great, and everyone will love them.

I'm only responding here because I was named elsewhere.

First, I don't get the sudden change of heart. It's my understanding that Heather asked you for help on numerous occasions and that you were essentially unresponsive. Second, although you say you're "not in charge of the show," you had an open slot when the Bananas cancelled and you promptly offered it to the Four Eyes, knowing full well the Dissimilars needed a show. Finally, I'm sure you're genuinely concerned about the Dissimilars playing on Friday night, but I must admit that I'm skeptical of your altruism, especially since you've got three out of town bands on the bill and you could probably use the draw for the Plainfield show. Splitting up nothing three ways is a bitch.

Back to you not being in charge of the show. After you offered the vacant slot to the Four Eyes, and before they agreed to do the show, I spoke to the band. They summed it up quite well: "Try to get the Dissimilars on the UCD show instead of us. Then there won't be two shows that night in the same town." That is a direct quote. Let the record state that I (obviously) love the Four Eyes and fully support their decision to do the show.

After exhausting all options, Heather has worked long and hard to make the Plainfield show happen and she deserves a lot of credit for her efforts. Her only motivation has been setting up a fun show that everybody can enjoy. We're hoping the weather cooperates, and there's a chance it will do just that, but ultimately it's her call about where to bring the Dissimilars. Those guys already know that we were unsuccessful at getting them on the "other" show, and they've reiterated on several occasions that they're cool with just "hanging out."
