CHRISTINA CARTER (OF CHARALAMBIDES)
YELLOW SWANS
CORPSE FUCKS CORPSE
DELAYED SLEEP
CHUCK BETTIS

Christina Carter was half of the great free-psych/folk outfit from Houston, Texas, known as Charalambides. She last came through the area with that band in November. Now she's back as a soloist in support of her great new CD on Kranky Records. John Dale wrote in Signal to Noise that Carter's music "[is] about capturing the emotional and spiritual intensities of the moment, working from within skeletal song-forms and expanding outward through improvisational tactics and psychedelic sound-mapping to reach an ideosyncratic space of pure heart-to-heart communication."

Die Yellow Swans remain a preeminent force in the experimental noise scene after a move from Portland to Oakland. Pete and Gabe usually conjure a sprawling psych drone underpinned by a nod-inducing beat, but they also bring posi party vibes. Last year saw the inaugural release of Sacto-based Weird Forest Records which was a one-sided LP of D.Y.S. recorded live here in Sacto! Score that LP and more...this is one of the most prolific noise bands, and a great live act.

Check Bettis (formerly of Metamatics/All Scars/etc.) has gone solo. Dawson of Sexy Prison says: "CHUCK BETTIS HAS BENE IN SOME GOOD BANDS THAT HAD RECORDS ON SLOWDIME AND DISCHORD RECORDS, THIS IS HIM GONIG SOLO AND RAZING THE DIFFICULTY LEVLE OF THE GAME TO 'HARD.'" [sic]

Corpse Fucks Corpse, has rekindled after a long hiatus to play raging hardcore in an art-scree blizzard. Think Born Against ravaging the Albert Ayler songbook! This has long been one of my very favorite local bands, and it is so great to have them back playing live again.

Also according to DAWSON: "DELAYED SLEEP WILL BE ARRIVING ON A CLOUD THAT IS REALLY A BUNCH OF WEED SMOKE COMING OUT OF THEIR BUTTZ AND EVERYONE WILL GET HIGHT UNTIL THEY DIE FROM THAT." Really, Delayed Sleep are Sacto's rising stars of spaced-out psych jams. Deadhead-spinny-dance-accessible (so long as you spin around at 1/4 speed (that's fuckin' fun! (have you tried it?)))...
