Sunday, January 16
@ Haunted House, 1101 Yale Street, Sacramento
CLOROX GIRLS (Portland)
CATHOLIC BOYS (Wisconsin)
BLACK DAHLIAS (Sacramento)
2 p.m. (EARLY SHOW), all ages, $3-5 DONATION
PLEASE NOTE THE EARLY START TIME, at 2 p.m., for this show. All
three bands are playing a house show in Reno later that night, so
we're gonna squeeze 'em for some rock before they leave town. I
don't think any of these bands' sets lasts more than a half-hour
anyway, so you'll get full sets from all three bands. No worries
there.
Clorox Girls had one of 2004's best LPs, a self-titled affair on
Smart Guy Records (same folks who released the awesome F.M. Knives
7" EP "Estrogen"). In 2005 Smart Guy Records will grace us with a
seven-song Clorox Girls 12", recorded by Chris Woodhouse. If you
were/are an F.M. Knives fan, you need to hear the Clorox Girls.
Think of it this way: If the F.M. Knives traded in their Buzzcocks,
Undertones, and Protex influences for bands like Red Cross, the
Simpletones, and the Crowd, and developed some stage presence and
were ten years younger, they could have passed for the Clorox Girls.
I can't recommend these guys highly enough. They'll appease equally
the pop sickos and punk junkies among us. I've heard snippets from
the Woodhouse 12" and it's infectiously catchy stuff!

Catholic Boys are said to be one of the best live bands around these
days. But that's everybody's claim to fame, right? Well, all
indications point to these Cheese Heads actually living up to that
billing. A couple of these guys were in the Teenage Rejects, who had
great 7"s on Rip Off and Alien Snatch, and in bands like the Strong
Come Ons and the Tears, both of whom are great garage punk bands from
Wisconsin. The Catholic Boys' debut full-length "Psychic Voodoo Mind
Control," on Trickknee Productions, is liable to take your breath
away, 'cause it's so damn powerful! These dudes play reckless
rock 'n' roll that approximates the energy and intensity of
hardcore. Holy shit! That's right, Catholic Boys' drummer Eric also
does time in a hardcore outfit called Holy Shit! The Catholic
Boys' spazztastic live show will surely keep you on your toes and
entertained. In Eric's words, he's ready for a "wild hog ride" of a
good time. Fuckin'-A!

Black Dahlias are local yokels who always lose, hang out at the mall,
and watch episodes of the Simpsons while reciting acronyms (member of TH' LOSIN' STREAKS/ex-ZODIAC KILLERS, ex-MALLRATS, ex-MILHOUSE SMF/USA). These guys have a three-song 7" EP coming out soon on Plastic Idol Records, which might be available at this show.
