yo, i'm leaving town in a few days for a few days and didn't want to not spam this before i leave:
WEDNESDAY JUNE 28 TWENTY OUGHT SIX:::::::
YIKES (ex-Coachwhips/Pink & Brown/OCS/etc.)
FUCKWOLF (ex-Curse of the Birthmark)
SWITCHED-ON VULTURES (ex-Switched-On Vultures)
at On TEH Y...fulton & munroe...sacto...8:30pm...$5 door, 21+...$1 jello shots/xtreme drink specials
HILARIOUS BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
yo, totally for serious about those jello shots folks! on the y is in my opinion THEE funniest place to watch bands play at in sac. i figured out the deal with buying beers there too...they're all pretty much the same price so make sure you put your $4 towards a frosty glass of arrogant bastard instead of a budweiser! don't know if the rotweiller will be in the house or not, but that dog is pretty rad. oh yeah, some bands are playing:
1. YIKES is my buddy john DWYER's new band. still haven't seen them myself, here's what i've heard:
"pretty good...sounded like wire" - lars f., lord of THE INTELLIGENCE following their first show
"heard they're ripping off the intelligence" - some guy i know
"As the set wore on, it was pretty obvious that Dwyer's newest path is one already trod down by the Hospitals, who have since staggering off the road into the woods, knocking shit down as they go along. To stretch this road metaphor a bit thinner, Yikes shows Dwyer as a buzzard circling the highway for roadkill, not freshkill, but dried out crispy corpse that only the starved would touch. Sure, he makes what he does sound good but at this point who cares? The dude might be able to sell this stuff to the clueless and to what a friend call the "Hey John, fuck my girlfriend" mob, but I am a little too wisend for baked goods." - scott soriano, www.terminal-boredom.com.
ss also mentioned to me in person that he thought yikes was "ripping off what the hospitals were doing three years ago" (uh...wasn't that around the time when john was IN that band?), and then he grumbled some stuff about "white belt hipsters" or something. YEAH WHATEVER, BRO! speaking from personal experience this band's going to be at a minimum A TOTAL BLAST live (witnesses to all those coachwhips shows i set up know what i mean!!!). seriously, if anyone is bummed after the show i'll personally buy you a drink AND give you a dollar refund! hey, with $1 jello shots i'll probably be buying everyone rounds anyways!!!
2. now...on to fuckwolf...vaguely remember sexy prison playing with these guys a few years back, at like their second show. don't remember much about it, but i've been hearing some pretty bold praise lumped on these guys by sf locals as of late. not to mention, i've been really digging those curse of the birthmark records that came out last year or whatever...hopefully this will serve as a fix of sorts. you can be their friend on myspace and hear some songs here: http://www.myspace.com/fckwolf
3. re: switched-on vultures, scott miller sez: "Uh, you guys did tell Mario that in order to play shows, he'd actually have to go to them right?"
speaking of which, if anyone wants a ride across the river to get to this thing because they are too lazy or weak to ride their bike across the bridge get in touch. i'll make sure the carpool/drunk tank is fired up for anyone that wants a ride to this most excellent of deep fried high volume friend making times.
