: You'd have a better crowd if you asked the folks who read this board about putting on a house concert in Davis, or contacting bands in Sac who are in the same vein as yours.

I have a hard time understanding how anyone would need this explained to them, but the big C is right: your best bet is to get in touch with some bands that you think you might want to play with and trade some shows with them. Right now it sounds like you might as well have opened up a copy of the News and Review and just started blindly throwing darts at the entertainment calendar in hopes of finding something decent to play. Going that route, I'd give you 2-3 shows before you write off playing here completely.
If you want to play a party in Davis your best chance is to make nice with some of the folks who work at KDVS. 90% of the "good" shows in Davis (house or otherwise) are organized by people who dj at the station. I don't think anyone would actually recomend playing G Street Pub, or any other 21+ venue in Davis for that matter. KDVS has been hosting Tuesday nights there this year, and those have gone ok, but I would hardly say they're great. By and large, the majority of people that go to shows in that town aren't 21 to begin with and the ones that are have had ample time to get vibed by the fratboys that hang out at places like G Street. My guess is that it's not your scene either.
For Sacramento, your best bet is to avoid playing a bar at all unless it's downtown. I would disagree that non-house shows are any better between Davis and Sac, you can have bad shows in both just as easily as you can have a decent one. More than a venue, knowing what bands to play with is the most critical part of the equation, because as you may have noticed there are a ton of shows here to compete with and people aren't just going to come out just because "something" is happening. Take a look at the calendar, there is "something" almost every night right now.
