It used to be that you could tell somebody was a hipster if they cared too much about not being one. It was all part of the privileged self-awareness thing and cultivating an authentic persona.
But now going out of your way to prove that you aren't a hipster actually means something more straightforward...namely that you haven't listened to the same conversation about it over and over again until you wanted to drown in PBR. Talking about that shit means that you are either (A) going out of your way to look more familiar with that social sphere than you actually are, which is just annoying posturing, or (B) you have a high tolerance for being boring and rehashing the same conversations from 2005 or whatever.
If you were once punk rock, you lose your punk rock card for arguing about petty shit on the internet.
