:Guarantee's are fucking retarded. Since there were so many sleazy club owners and promoters before the internet days, bands would demand a guarantee. It started a trend. Now every little fuckwad band thinks that they can demand one, and the bands that actually deserve it, rarely ask for one. If a promoter or club owner is shitty these days, the word spreads extremely fast, so there really is no need for this shit. So, combine the entitlement attitude with the cost of fuel, and the days of "fugazi" prices are seemingly gone. If you want to see lower door prices, I suggest you:
A. Convince your friends in bands to quit demanding a set amount of $ and to just go for door deals.
B. Open your own club where you can set the door prices.
C. Book the fuckin show yourself and set the door price, and at the end of the night, you look the band in the eye and tell them they get $150 to split between all 3.
Between guarantees, the cost of fuel, and the overhead of running a joint...it's really difficult to do shows anymore for under $10 a head. This is especially true when the venue only holds 50 people. 4 employees + 12 band members = 16, 50-16=34(number of potential paying show goers), 34x$8=$272, $272-$50(labor cost for venue)=$222. $222 to be split between 3 bands, 2 of which are touring....that's assuming it's a capacity show. Now, let's just say it's split evenly...that's $74 per band. Make sense now? Hope that put it in to perspective for you, if not...oh well, take your $8 and go buy some 40's.
