Friday night! (Sept 5)
@ FunCastle, 2309 L Street in Sacto
be there at 8!
bring $$$$$ to donate

Curse of the Birthmark (SF)
Chad Stockdale Quartet (w/ Nick Julian!)
& a special new band w/ no name yet!

Because this apparently has already happened, I wanna warn everyone so that they don't show up to the wrong place!

Tomorrow's top-notch show has been moved from Luigi's FunGarden to Lizzy's FunCastle! And instead of starting at 9pm, it will start at 8pm. FunCastle is a house at 2309 L Street. In case you don't know Liz and Daniel and Andy and Ryan, don't feel bashful about coming to a stranger's house. This is an easygoing fun kinda place where people like music and pass beers around the room to each other.

The featured band is a reunion of a sorely missed menace of San Francisco's neo-no-wave scene of early- to mid-this-decade...

Curse of the Birthmark

Their 7-inch on 333 and "Welcome to the Hard Times...You're Late!" 12-inch sound like some of the best music of this kind...better than all but the most recent Night Wounds stuff, and as far as the severely ominous 2000s harshwave goes, this is very unique for its icy synth and seductive dubby vibe. Fans of Night Wounds, die Monitr Batss, Blurt, the Blackouts (Seattle, early 80s), DNA, and Arab on Radar will love this. (But that's not to say that this should fall in the genre ghetto of Arab on Radar mimicries! Curse of the Birthmark absolutely LEVELS any of those bands!)

Think I'm exaggerating even a little? Then read this trusted blogger luminary's take and have a deeper listening from the free attached mp3s...

Watch 'em the time they played Gilman Street...

Or at Edinburgh Castle (you rarely see Weasel Walter get this dorky!)...

This show was gonna be at Luigi's Fun Garden and cost $5. So please, donate as much as you can to get the band's hungry gas tank filled. This show will deliver at least $5 in entertainment value...I guarantee it. (No one will be turned away for lack of funds, but you know why every donation is important.)

This show will open with another kinda reunion....the Chad Stockdale Quartet with cellist Nick Julian! Yeah, that's right...Nick...maybe you didn't recognize him in that amazing wizardly beard he's sporting now? Well, he's back in town this month, and they're playing this here show as a reunion of the quartet that slayed several times a year or two back...especially when they played Fools Foundation (was that before a Get Hustle show?) and the Sword Heaven/16 Bitch Pile Up show at Javalounge. Facemelting fury to lilting beauty...those were some outstanding performances!

Also, some permutation of Sucks dudes are gonna play something entirely different than you've ever seen or heard from Sucks, and I think that there will be a whole new band name associated with it. So, come be surprised!!!

Later
Rick
