i do know that you don't compile php scripts
and that a .php file is essentially just an html file that recognizes php tags, so only between should you actually have any code.
i'd recommend downloading example code somewhere or posting your code here so people who know this better than i do can see what the problem is.
also, really dumb suggestion but make sure your host has php running?
